Paris Saint-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup with a 2–1 win over Aston Villa on 12 August 2026 in Salzburg. A check against UEFA’s official match report corrects two errors in our earlier account: Villa’s scorer was Brian Madjo, not “Brayan Mvondo”, and Villa’s goal was an equaliser on the stroke of half-time, not a late consolation after PSG had gone 2–0 up.
What actually happened?
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 20th minute from a pass by Désiré Doué. Madjo hit the post and created further chances before volleying home John McGinn’s cross in the 45th minute to make it 1–1. Villa began the second half aggressively, with PSG keeper Matvei Safonov saving a McGinn effort. Doué then regained the lead for Paris in the 61st minute after substitute Ousmane Dembélé threaded through a pass. PSG defended that lead to the final whistle.
At 17 years and 212 days, Madjo became the youngest player on record to start a UEFA Super Cup game, according to the organizer, and his equaliser also made him its youngest scorer. Doué supplied an assist as well as the winning goal and was named UEFA’s player of the match. Both details explain more about their contribution than a bare list of scorers.
Did Paris control the entire match?
The 2–1 score does not imply an uninterrupted PSG lead or a one-sided contest. UEFA describes sustained Villa pressure at times and a difficult test for Paris. In particular, Villa’s two chances before half-time and McGinn’s saved shot after the restart gave Unai Emery’s side opportunities to change the result. Paris had the decisive finish through Doué.
The win followed PSG’s 2025 Super Cup success. UEFA records Paris as only the third club to win consecutive editions, after Milan and Real Madrid.
